FichtelApp — Your digital companion for the Fichtelgebirge

The FichtelApp is a project that sits very close to my heart, as I’ve covered it for 5 years through case studies, blog posts, 3 successful award submissions and of course, social media.
The app turns the whole Fichtelgebirge into something you can carry in your pocket. It started as a citizen's idea in a participation project and grew into a central pillar of the Wunsiedel district's Smart City work, now with over 20,000 downloads.
My job was to make a genuinely complex product feel simple. The app pulls together tourist data, editorial content, events, and community features for two very different audiences: locals who live there, and the 15 million tourists who visit each year. I turned all of that into clear, warm copy that carries the region's personality. That includes Werner, the region’s mascot that is included in the app.
The project has since won a Red Dot Award, a German Design Award, and a German Brand Award.
